I had the opportunity to see Dan Heath (One half of Heath Brothers) speak yesterday about organizational change. Firstly, he is a great speaker and uses humor well and often - you should definitely check him out if you get the opportunity! I love the "bright spots" point he makes in the video above. Another item he spoke about that really resonated with me was how environment affects ability to make change. He shared a personal story illustrating how this plays out in the real world (He owned a start up that moved into a bigger space before they had the resources to support it- leading to a big empty room of desperation), but he also spoke to the online environment. He rightly pointed out that it is easier and more obvious to recognize the affects of change online. Take for example, an opt-in sign up form that has 10 questions vs. 5. Which one is a person more likely to fill out?
We all have the ability to affect behavioral change through the online environment we create. The words and content we make are the framework to orchestrate the conversations we want our clients and prospects to have about our products and services. Know what you want to achieve, and create the environment that will lead the user to that answer.
